Crest VS. Colgate
Since the 1st day of 2014 I have tremendously changed a ton of my habits in regards to my health. Toothpaste being one of them, a MAJOR one. Like the majority, I was a fun-loving fluoride toothpaste user. I preferred Colgate over Crest. Crest was just NASTY to me-ugh! Anyhow, after doing much research on the things I was consuming, I ran across some information that detailed the horrors of toothpaste that contained fluoride. Basically every mainstream toothpaste advertised and used that’s said to fight tooth decay. I’ve been asked repeatedly, “What toothpaste do you use?” So here it is. 1st lets find out what fluoride is and how harmful it can be to your health. I’ll make this very brief.
What Is Fluoride?
Chemically fluorine is the 9th element in the periodic table, and in the same family as chlorine, bromine and iodine.
This chemical family of elements is called the halogens. They are non-metallic and salt forming. Halogens are highly reactive, and as such can be harmful or lethal to biological organisms in sufficient quantities. Fluorine is one of the most reactive elements in existence, and is a corrosive and highly toxic gas. The toxicity of chlorine is also widely known, and controversial in itself as an additive to water.
Naturally, when elements bond their properties usually change drastically. Some go from harmless to harmful, and others vice-versa. Depending on what fluorine bonds with, the new compound will determine ultimately how it will act within a system.
Fluoride is formed when fluorine gains one extra negative charge, called an electron. In common toothpastes and some city water supplies, fluoride exists paired with sodium, as sodium fluoride.
What we do know today for sure, is that fluoride’s adverse effects depend on total fluoride dosage from all sources, and naturally vary from person to person. Thus, even if one cannot eliminate all the sources of the fluoride in their life, a conscious reduction can make all the difference where our health is concerned (Evolving Wellness RSS).
“Fluoride is a highly toxic substance. Consider, for example, the poison warning that the FDA now requires on all fluoride toothpastes sold in the U.S. or the tens of millions of people throughout China and India who now suffer serious crippling bone diseases from drinking water with elevated levels of fluoride (Fluoride Action Network).”
Is Fluoride Harmful?
It most certainly is!
Fluoride prematurely ages the body, mainly by distortion of enzyme shape. Again, when enzymes get twisted out of shape, they can’t do their jobs. This results in collagen breakdown, eczema, tissue damage, skin wrinkling, genetic damage, and immune suppression. Practically any disease you can name may then be caused.
All systems of the body are dependent upon enzymes. When fluoride changes the enzymes, this can damage:
– immune system
– digestive system
– respiratory system
– blood circulation
– kidney function
– liver function
– brain function
– thyroid function
The distorted enzymes are proteins, but now they have become foreign protein, which we know is the exact cause of autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, arthritis, asthma, and arteriosclerosis (How Dangerous Is Fluoride To Your Health).
What Type of Toothpaste Do I Use?
Desert Essence‘s natural tree oil toothpaste. It’s fluoride, SLS, and gluten FREE! When I first tried it of course it was a bit dis tasteful because I was use to using the artificially flavored toothpaste. However it didn’t take long for me to adapt to the taste, and now I’m addicted to brushing my teeth. I LOVE this toothpaste.
In late April I attended the National Association for Professional Women’s 2014 conference in New York. Traveling from Florida, of course I had to get my toiletries in order. So let me tell you. When you DO NOT engage into the habits of the masses, it is VERY TOUGH, to do simple things. For example, I had to force myself to use CREST (go figure) toothpaste when I traveled, because I didn’t have enough time to search for a 3oz or less container to squeeze my toothpaste in. When I woke up the NEXT morning, my mouth felt disgusting! Haven’t you wondered if toothpaste is supposed to clean your mouth why is it so filthy the next morning? I was tempted not to brush my teeth for the rest of the trip. Or maybe one night I said F it, but I’ll never tell! lol 😉
I hope this was concise and informative! DO me a favor and STOP USING TOOTHPASTE THAT CONTAINS FLUORIDE!
P.S. I’m doing a research on water bottles that contain fluoride as well. Here’s a snippet: Pure-life, DaSani, and all of the store brand named water bottles contain fluoride. Including your tap water. I currently ONLY drink Aquafina
