Asleep and paralyzed was the lady. Living by routine. Back to back, day by day, nothing changed. Asleep one night in her bed, a voice whispered, “Don’t elude yourself.” She immediately got up and realized that she was outside.
The lady began walking down a long street in what appeared to be a city. Weirdly, it looked abandoned with not that many people out. It was only 5 pm. She seen an older woman sitting on the corner of the street. Out of the two people she seen so far, the older woman looked safe enough to speak too. The lady approached the woman asking, “Excuse me, do you know where I am?” The older woman slowly looked up and said, “Oh honey you’re still asleep.” Looking extremely puzzled and confused she asked, “Asleep? What do you mean, I’m awake.” The older woman shook her head and told her to have a seat. The lady instantly became afraid and very uncertain, but what did she have to lose? As she sat, slowly the scenery began to change. The lady was now in the older woman’s kitchen. The older woman turned around and smiled. “Cookies?” she asked.
The lady didn’t answer. When the older woman recognized her shock, she sat next to her and began to explain.
“Life, like entertainment, leaves you distracted. Distracted from all the things that are important. Family, Love, friends, and even time. Oh but you’ll be okay in a few. You’ll realize what’s going on. The journey won’t be easy, but it’ll damn sure be worth it.” The lady grew frustrated because she couldn’t understand what was going on. The older woman continued, “When one is to controlled, it diminishes the very thing we need. Our expression, individuality, and emotional content. Ease the burden of your mind, and listen inside. You see, the life you’re living is the life someone else created for you. Your perspectives, what you call love, and what you want for your future. When things are repeated too many times you’ll believe it and it’ll become a habit. Sooner or later your habits will become your life.” Slightly understanding the lady asked, “Well who created my life for me?” Older woman replied, “It could be anybody. Your parents, your family, your friends, anybody. But the source of all illusions to the masses is through society. He knows what you want and desire. Like everybody, money, love, and adventure. He entertains off of your insecurities, distracting you from the true journey. Your authenticity.”
The lady sat quiet in despair. She began to think and slowly understood, that once society had you, much like adventure, they knew how much colder, risky, and uncertain life is without them. That independency takes the will and intention she didn’t have, just to find her way back home.
The older woman showed the lady to the door. She thanked her and walked off. Left with her thoughts, the lady had one more question. But because she forgot to ask, she was left empty, cold, and uncertain. Then she awakened.
“He/she who is asleep, even if it had been for years, can surly be awakened.”
